TO START UP (see also page 50).

  1. Turn on the petrol cock below the autovac tank (Fig 1) and flood the float chamber in order to be sure that the petro1 supply is in order
  2. Move the economy lever into the position marked "Primer-Start." Slightly open the throttle by means of the throttle stop knob. (See Fig. 2a.) Fully advance the ignition lever.

    3. (N.B. - The ignition is self-timing, and the ignition lever should be placed in the advanced position unless, when climbing a hill, a faint clicking sound is heard from the engine)

  3. When starting on the battery coil system, move the change-over switch on the Instrument Board to "Coil" (Fig. 3). If starting on the magneto move change-over switch to "Mag."
  4. Test the neutral position of the gear lever by moving it sideways. Fig. 1.
  5. Press the starter pedal, which is 1ocated on the dash behind the leather pad in the carpet. Release the pedal as soon as the engine starts. (N.B:-Do not press on the accelerator pedal when starting.
  6. Immediately the engine starts:- (a) Close the primer. (b) Close the throttle. (See Fig. 2b.)
