G. Testing the Ignition System.
- Did the
ignition fail on coil or magneto? Try the alternative
system by moving the ignition switch on the instrument
board, and if that fails the fault is probably in the
ignition plugs, distributor or contact breaker.
H. Inspecting the Ignition Plugs.
- Disconnect the high tension leads from the
ignition plugs and remove the plugs with a properly
fitting box spanner.
- If the plug points are dirty or oily, clean
carefully with petrol and see that they are properly set
so as just to admit the gauge of the special spanner
provided.
- Replace the plugs, renewing washers if necessary.
I. Testing the Distributor.
- Release the springs U and remove the distributor
cover B (without removing the high tension cables A
therefrom). Inspect the central carbon brush C to be sure
that it moves freely so that it will make contact with
revolving distributor arm D.
Make sure that all the high tension cables are
properly connected to the terminal sockets on the
distributor cover. Also see that the inside of the cover
is clean and dry. If the cover is in order the fault lies
on the contact breaker.
